Why isn’t there a teen magazine for black girls? Black girls need a publication dedicated to them just as much as any other race. Our girls are struggling with low self-esteem, peer pressure, and finding themselves in a world that often chooses to degrade their beauty.
They’re growing up too fast, trying to be the kind of woman they see black men desire in music videos. They’re giving in to sex at an early age, contracting sexually transmitted diseases and finding out way too soon what it means to be a mother.
They’re hating on each other and fighting on the streets, only to have someone record it and upload it on YouTube. They’re calling each other and themselves the B word, and they actually think it’s cool. They’re more worried about looking good than being an A-student.
Our girls need to realize they are more than their curves, clothes or hair style. They have so much to offer if only they took the time to look within and choose to be a leader rather than a follower.
Haven is here to help black girls recognize how special they truly are. Haven is here to inspire black girls to tap into their potential and own up to it.
There’s no more time to waste. Black girls need this. They need a creative outlet that will embrace their stores and won’t judge their shortcomings. They need a place where they can read about everyday girls and famous black women who are making a difference in our community. They need a place where they come first, and Haven is it.
